Dozens of classic car enthusiasts brought their rides downtown for a few hours to show them off. Among them was David Lacroix and his red 1967 Caprice Classic, which he spent the last 7 years restoring. He tells CFRA News classic cars are his passion. "Just the designs of the cars...the classic cars of the year 1967 and it's a beautiful car...I wanted to restore it."
Royal Foucher was showing off his 1951 Dodge Business Coupe. He came down to talk shop with other car owners. "I like to see other people with their cars and it's like...it is a car show but it's more information and getting along with everybody and talking about their own proper cars."
Dozens of classic vehicles come down to the market for one day each year for a competition and auto show in support of downtown businesses. Prizes are given out for the People's Choice award winners.
As Foucher points out, some who bring their cars are hobbyists, but not all. "This is something that is like a toy for me. There's nothing much to do on it so...if it was a hobby I'd probably be working on it 24 hours but...it's not afraid of rain like me."
The weather had threatened to cancel the show but it was able to go ahead after all. Some of the other vehicles on display included antique fire pumps from the Bytown Fire Brigade and a 1940’s ambulance.
