The Rover has attained a bit of a reputation at work; it’s pretty much the biggest thing in the car park, and nobody understands how I can possibly run a car that averages 23mpg. The cheap purchase and maintenance on the side of things just doesn’t seem to figure in today’s world of company cars and expensive fuel. Never mind; I get to smoke around calmly sat ona heated electric leather seat while they worry about the 49th mpg they can extract from their 1.2 diesel Corsa.
The Golden Beast (she hasn’t got a proper name yet!) has been trundling along nicely. I fitted my Blaupunkt MP68 so I’ve got some tunes, but I haven’t wired it in properly yet and it shows. There must be a problem on the wire I used for switched ignition seems to be intermittent (the loom is butchered behind the stereo, so I had to use my ingenuity ), so every now and again it cycles on and off. Very annoying if I am boogying to some tunes!
She’s a bit cantankerous when it comes to the leccy windows; sometimes the switches just stop working. I’m guessing this may have something to do with the brittle solder in the fuse box (which is a common fault on this car according to those on the internet). I’ve currently got my eye out for one on eBay as I don’t want to take the one that’s in there out and butcher that, as I’m an amateur solderist at best! The variable wipe can be a bit weird too; sometimes it seems to default to the shortest wipe cycle, sometimes not. Again I’m thinking this is probably fusebox related.
I bought some Mers leather cleaner and did up the seats a bit, so they look nicer now. I also went on eBay and bought her a new air filter as the one that was in there looked like the filter in your clothes drier after a big load! She’s a lot sweeter now.
Currently on the to do list is;
- Fix fusebox
- Dismantle drivers door as it’s rattling
- Try and figure out why the remote central locking doesn’t work (arms the alarm and tries to lock the doors, but the pins don’t move)
- Auto box service - she’s a bit clunky and slow to shift
Lastly, because I am a tart at heart, I bought her some facelift rear lights.
