The time has come to say goodbye to one of the greatest old school muscle brands that there was.
General Motors (GM) has taken the decision to close down Pontiac as part of its exit strategy from the Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the US last year. The closure of this brand was finalised a few days ago when the contract between GM and its dealers is expired.
Pontiac has been around for 84 years and the last of its production was in August 2009.
The firm that made its name with the Pontiac GTO in the 60s, which saw only Chevrolet and Ford marginally have better sales. The peak of its production rise to 973,000 cars in 1973.
There have been a few attempts to keep Pontiac alive, during the 1990s and during 2000, but unfortunately the brand has been struggling.
We’ll be sorry to see Pontiac go at R&CC.
