The British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) is set for change once the new season starts in 2011. The first sketches of the Toyota Avensis Next Generation Touring Car Concept have been shown. Apparently the Avensis will be launched at the last round of the 2010 BTCC at Brands Hatch.
GPR Motorsport is using the Avensis as a testbed for next year’s change to the BTCC specifications, as the development costs are likely to be cut. The technology used in the Toyota will then be avaliable for the teams to adopt, so they can comply with the new regulations.
The Avensis is expected to be tested by two-time champion James Thompson, who has been racing in the European Touring Car Championship this season.
